North Hollywood ADU Construction With a Protected Path
North Hollywood ADU construction with a protected delivery path to the back of the lot, a glass door and a shaded patio, built by Palmcrest Contractors.
Plywood laid end to end over the lawn becomes the road for a North Hollywood backyard unit. Every wheelbarrow of concrete, bundle of studs and crate of glass rolls along it from the gate to the work area, so the garden that will frame the new patio survives the build. Before laying it, we walk the route for width, overhead clearance and the turns a long load must make.
Planning deliveries along the route
Long pieces such as beams and rafters for the patio cover need a straight run or a turn wide enough to swing them, so they are delivered on the day they are installed. Heavy loads cross the plywood on rubber-tired carts, and stockpiles sit on tarps in one corner of the yard, away from the roots of trees we are keeping. A temporary fence section that lifts out can open a second way in when the main gate is narrow. The route is swept at the end of each workday so grit never reaches the glass tracks.
Permits and the finish
Before the plywood goes down, the permit has to be in hand from LADBS, whose reviewers look at the lot line distances, energy compliance and the electrical tie-in. During the work, inspectors use the same protected route to reach each stage. When the unit is closed in and the glass is set, the plywood comes up, any compacted soil is loosened, and the lawn or planting along the path is restored. The patio and its shade cover then go in, finished against a garden that was looked after the whole time.

ADU Construction in North Hollywood: what people ask
Where the route reaches without crossing the main house's patio, with the unit's glass facing an open part of the yard. That keeps the main house's view and its outdoor space untouched. A North Hollywood unit set near a rear corner, with high windows on its house-facing side, gives both homes privacy and the unit a sunny or shaded patio as you prefer.
Yes, for a North Hollywood ADU limited to one story and at most 500 square feet. On these LADBS sets we also mark the staging area and the delivery route on the site plan, so inspectors can follow the protected path. Larger units or a second floor are priced after a visit.
Yes. Once the plywood comes up, the patio is laid against the unit's glass door, with pavers or concrete and a shade cover above. Since the garden around it was protected throughout the build, planting can frame the patio from the day the unit is first lived in.
