Pacoima Windows & Doors, Reading the Slab Outside

Pacoima glass doors checked against the slab outside: level reading, hose test and drain channel decide how rain leaves the door. LADBS permits.

Tell us about the opening, deck or room

We read every request and reply to set up a measure. Photos of the wall or yard help, and we ask for them by email. How we use your details.

The slab outside a new door decides where the rain goes. If it tilts toward the sill, even a well-flashed frame is working against the slab. On a Pacoima lot, a level reading and a hose test show whether the patio needs a small fix, a drain channel at the door or a bit of grading beside the wall.

What the slab is doing

A long level laid from the sill outward shows whether the slab falls away or leans in. A hose run over the concrete shows where water gathers. A slab that falls away from the house needs only a flush threshold with a channel. A slab that holds water may need a strip cut and recast, or a drain tied to a downspout line. Each fix gets its own line in the quote. Photos of the pooled water go into the quote, so the fix and the reason for it are both on a single page.

Roof water and the permit

Roof water reaches a wide door from above as well as from the slab, so gutters and downspouts near the opening are checked and moved if they spill beside the frame. LADBS reviews the permit set, which carries the beam, the glass labels and the flashing detail. Inspection comes while the framing and the sill pan are still in view. Flashing laps are checked on the wall side before the new sill pan goes in. Gutter outlets that empty beside the sill are redirected into a downspout line.
