Sylmar Windows & Doors, Measured Before Quoting

Sylmar glass doors start with a laser check for a sagging header and an uneven floor, then an engineered beam, ember-ready glass where mapped, and LADBS.

Tell us about the opening, deck or room

We read every request and reply to set up a measure. Photos of the wall or yard help, and we ask for them by email. How we use your details.

Before a price exists for a Sylmar opening, a laser goes up on a tripod in the room. Its line across the ceiling shows whether the old door header has dropped, and the same line along the floor shows whether the slab or subfloor falls toward the yard. Big glass panels need a true, level sill to roll and seal, so those readings shape the beam and the base.

Level, plumb and the diagonals

After the laser, a long level goes on each jamb, and a tape takes both diagonals of the old opening. When those diagonals differ, the wall has racked, and the new frame will need careful shimming and a stiffer beam above it. Then we lift a floor register or check the slab edge to see what the sill will rest on. A floor that runs out of level can be corrected with a tapered sill plate before the door arrives. Every reading is noted, and the quote explains which of them changed the scope.

Ember rules and LADBS in Sylmar

State fire hazard maps cover some of Sylmar, and ember-resistance rules can then apply to new glazing and vents on an affected parcel. We specify dual glazing with a tempered pane for those lots and print that callout on the plans. LADBS holds the permit, since Sylmar is within Los Angeles city limits, and its checker reviews the beam detail and the energy form before an inspector sees the open frame. San Fernando runs its own city counter, while Pacoima and Arleta go through LADBS as Sylmar does.
