Culver City ADU Construction Planned From the Curb Back
Culver City ADU construction planned around how big glass doors reach the backyard, with a private shaded patio for the unit, by Palmcrest Contractors.
A pallet of glass door panels is the load we plan the route around on a Culver City lot. Lumber bends and bags of concrete can be carried, but a big slider panel has to travel upright, flat and unscratched from the truck to the back of the yard. So we measure the gate, the side yard and any turns before choosing the door size, then plan everything else to follow that path.
Measuring the way in
We note the narrowest point between the house and the fence, eaves and downspouts that stick into the path, and any steps or tight corners. If the clear width is small, the door can arrive as separate panels assembled at the opening, or the order of work changes so the glass goes in before the side fence is rebuilt. Concrete may come by pump hose, and framing can arrive as precut packages. Protective mats cover any paving that stays, and the route is checked again before the glass truck is booked.
Permits in Culver City
Culver City's own building department takes the permit application and checks the drawings against state ADU law and its zoning code. Setbacks, separation from the main house and the energy report all get a look, along with a staging note when the site is tight. Once the permit is issued, deliveries are scheduled so the glass arrives after the framing is ready to receive it, which keeps fragile panels from sitting in the yard. Inspections follow each stage until the patio and shade cover close out the job.
ADU Construction in Culver City: what people ask
Where the access path ends, ideally, since that spot is often also the furthest from the main house windows. Turning the unit's glass door toward the middle of the yard and giving the main house the unit's side wall keeps both homes private. A shade tree or a slatted screen between the two patios can finish the separation.
Yes, as long as the Culver City design is single story with no more than 500 square feet inside. For a Culver City lot the floor plan matters to the route as well, since it fixes the door sizes that have to fit through the side yard. A larger unit or a second level is priced after we see it.
Yes. Once the panels are in place, the glass door opens onto a patio we pour or pave after the heavy work is done, so it stays clean. A pergola, a shade sail or a solid cover keeps the sun off the glass, and a planter or low wall defines the unit's outdoor room.
