Alhambra ADU Construction Planned Around the Header
Alhambra ADU construction that plans the route for the steel header over the patio glass first, then turns that route into a lit garden walk.
The steel header that spans the wide patio opening of an Alhambra ADU is the piece that tests the route to the back of the lot. It arrives long and heavy, so we trace its path from the curb on our first visit, checking every gate, corner and low eave along the side of the house. Whatever that beam can pass, the rest of the materials can follow, and the same route later becomes the garden walk to the unit's door.
Moving a long beam through a side yard
A header for a wide opening runs the full width of the glass plus a bearing at each end, so a turn at the corner of the house can matter more than the width of the path. Where the turn is tight, a dolly under each end lets a few people walk the beam through, and a short section of fence may come down for a day. Glass panels for the slider travel crated and upright. Concrete reaches the footings by hose from a pump at the curb, and framing lumber follows on carts once the footings cure.
From delivery path to garden walk
Plywood protects the soil along the path through the build, and any fence section or gate removed for the beam is rebuilt before we leave. The strip then gets stepping stones or pavers, low planting along its edges and path lights wired from the unit's own circuit, ending at the patio outside the main room. Alhambra city staff review the plans and inspect the work, and the paving along the side of the house is shown with the rest of the site work so it is signed off with the unit.
ADU Construction in Alhambra: what people ask
Near the back fence, its glass turned to the yard's open center while the garden walk comes in along one side. A hedge or slatted screen between the unit and the main house keeps each set of windows private, while the patio door still looks out on sky and planting.
An Alhambra ADU of one story and up to 500 square feet is covered. Our Alhambra site plan draws the setbacks together with the side route, its gates and the path lights, and the city reviewer reads that sheet against the zoning rules. Larger designs, along with the build itself, are priced after we visit.
Yes. The garden walk ends at a patio of pavers or poured concrete, and a sliding glass door under the steel header joins it to the main room. A pergola with adjustable louvers shades the table on bright afternoons, and planting at the patio edge makes it read as an outdoor room with the sky for a ceiling.
