Ventura Windows & Doors

Glass doors and windows for Ventura homes, with the beam drawings, safety glass, energy labels and coastal zone check a building reviewer looks for.

Tell us about the opening, deck or room

We read every request and reply to set up a measure. Photos of the wall or yard help, and we ask for them by email. How we use your details.

Engineered beam drawings head the list for the building department reviewer on a Ventura glass wall. Next come the safety glass marked on the plan and energy labels that meet the state standard. The parcel may also lie inside the state coastal zone, and that can bring a review of its own, so we check the address first. With the file complete, the living room can open to the yard through a wall of glass.

The structural sheet

A widened opening removes studs that carried roof or floor loads, so the reviewer reads how the new beam picks them up. The engineer's sheet shows the beam size, the posts at each end, the metal connectors and the footings below. If the wall is part of the house's bracing against earthquakes, the plan also shows how that bracing is made up elsewhere. Once approved, the inspector checks the frame on site before it is covered, and only then does the wall close around the new door.

Glass, labels and the coastal question

Glass in a door, or low and close to one, has to be tempered or laminated, and the reviewer looks for it on the plan. Energy labels on each unit are compared with the state standard. If the parcel is within the coastal zone, a separate coastal review may apply, depending on the scope. On the material side, salt in the air near the coast is hard on hardware, so rollers and hinges outside are specified in stainless steel, with matching screws.
